Black currant: benefits and harm to human health

Currants have a powerful anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect. Therefore, tea from currant buds is actively used to treat urological diseases, urolithiasis, and improve kidney function. Delicious, aromatic fruits can cleanse human kidneys, dissolve stones, and remove sand and harmful toxic compounds from them.

Currants are a tasty and healthy berry, which is advisable to use if you have kidney problems or for preventive purposes.

Composition of black currant

It is not without reason that it is called the source of energy and youth. Berry extracts contain 150 volatile components. 100 grams of fruit contain 0.4 g of fat, 1 g of protein, 7.3 g of carbohydrates. The same amount of berries contains 2.3 g of organic acids and 4.8 g of dietary fiber. Microelements in currants include zinc, copper, fluorine, boron, iron, iodine and manganese. In addition to them, the chemical composition includes vitamins:

  • AT 2;
  • A;
  • AT 6;
  • WITH;
  • IN 1;
  • E;
  • AT 5;
  • RR;
  • AT 9;

Among the macroelements it contains magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur and calcium. The berry contains 0.4 percent ascorbic acid. It is also enriched with essential oils, pectin and tannins. Malvin anthocyanin was found in fresh juice. This is a food coloring of natural origin that is harmless to humans. The sugar concentration in the berry is minimal, so this product is often used in dietary nutrition.

Calorie content

Currants are a low-calorie food. The energy value of 100 grams of fresh produce is 44 kilocalories. This is explained by the fact that the berry contains a lot of water: 83.3 g. But the liquid evaporates if the berry is dried. For this reason, the calorie content in dried form will be slightly higher. In dried currant fruit it reaches 300 kcal. Despite such a high level of calories, you should not refuse to eat the delicacy, since it contains many nutritional elements.

How to preserve currants

It’s clear that berries from the bush are healthier! Our task is to preserve the “storehouse of vitamins” for the long winter. Here are the best options on how not to lose the beneficial properties of currants:

1. Grind currants with sugar in a 1:1 ratio without cooking! 2. Or freeze. All vitamins are in place.

Before freezing you need:

  1. Sort through all the currants, remove branches and various “garbage”.
  2. Rinse with water.
  3. Place in an even layer on a paper or cloth towel to remove moisture.
  4. Carefully place the dried berries into plastic bags for freezing.
  5. Place the “valuable cargo” in the freezer.

After defrosting, berries cannot be re-frozen!

Try freezing 1-2 kg of berries. In winter, they will be indispensable for breakfast (add to porridge). For tea, you can wrap currants in a pancake and add a spoonful of honey on top – delicious! Delicious feast!
