Lorista: instructions for use, reviews, price, side effects

Cardiac pathologies are rapidly growing in prevalence and are gradually taking first place in the structure of morbidity among people around the world. Statistics also give us disappointing indicators, indicating that now heart disease mainly affects not only older people, but also younger patients. Nowadays, hypertension manifests itself already at the age of 37-45 years, although previously high blood pressure mainly affected people after 50 years of age. This tendency to affect the working-age population stimulates the development of cardiology as a science and branch of practical medicine.

Nowadays, many different studies are being carried out, new surgical methods for treating morphological pathology of the heart are constantly being developed and implemented. Pharmaceuticals also does not stand still, and constantly offers us more and more new cardiological drugs. One of the most studied and widely used antihypertensive drugs is Lorista ND. Lorista blood pressure tablets have already proven their effectiveness and safety; many patients with hypertension prefer this particular drug.

Release form and composition

Lorista is produced in the form of tablets, packaged in sealed blisters of 7, 10 or 14 pieces each. In total, the cardboard packaging contains from 2 to 8 blisters, depending on the packaging by the manufacturer.

The shape of the tablets is oval, slightly biconvex, with a bevel of the acute angle of the tablet at the edges. They are covered with a special film shell in white and yellow colors. At the fracture they appear as a white rough mass. This medicine is odorless.

Lorista tablets 100 mg

Depending on the manufacturer, the weight of the tablets may vary. In pharmacies you can find medicines with tablet weights of 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mg. This drug may contain either losartan potassium or hydrochlorothiazide as an active ingredient.

Depending on this, there are several types of the drug. Medicines called Lorista ND and Lorista N are based on hydrochlorothiazide, while Lorista contains losartan potassium.

To maintain the shape, taste and color of tablets, the manufacturer uses:

  • food emulsifiers E527, E171;
  • cellactose;
  • starch;
  • food additives E551;
  • cellulose;
  • propylene glycol;
  • talc;
  • dye E104.

The medicine can be stored for no more than 5 years from the date of release.

Reviews

On the Internet you can easily find many different reviews about its therapeutic effectiveness and efficiency. This will allow you to form a definite opinion about the medicine, but the final decision on its use or refusal should be made together with the attending physician.

Most reviews about Lorist are positive, but there are also cases where people report the occurrence of various complications and adverse reactions. You must remember that in most cases this is due to individual intolerance to any components of the drug. Even with the high quality of the drug and the correct dosage regimen, you cannot be completely immune from unpleasant side effects.

Doctors' opinion

  • Ilya Ivanovich, cardiologist with twenty years of practical experience, specialist in ultrasound diagnostics. Lorista is a very effective drug for the treatment of hypertension when combined with other drugs. As monotherapy, it is sometimes not effective enough. Despite the recommendations written in the instructions for the drug, I most often use a daily dosage of one hundred milligrams, because fifty is not enough. But you should always start with lower concentrations, since the risk of developing a hypotonic state with syncope is high.
  • Evgenia Dmitrievna, cardiologist, specialist in echocardiographic diagnostics. I prescribe Lorista very often because the drug optimally combines price and quality ratio. Many patients are very captivated by the fact that they can take the medicine only once a day along with other medications. The combination of type 2 angiotensin receptor blockers (to which Lorista belongs) with diuretics (diuretics) has shown high effectiveness. Adverse reactions to this medicine are extremely rare.

Patients' opinions

  • Irina, 47 years old. I started having problems with blood pressure after my second birth. For more than ten years, the numbers on the tonometer have been jumping from one hundred thirty to one hundred sixty-five. At first I didn’t go to the hospital, I took the pills on my own and only on those days when I felt bad (I took one Captopril tablet if I had a headache or tinnitus). However, recently, health began to be disturbed more and more often, and a hypertensive crisis could begin even after trivial stress at work. The cardiologist first prescribed me Lorista, and a month later added a diuretic (Hypothiazide) to the treatment regimen. Now I feel great, the headaches are gone, there is no noise in my ears, my head is no longer dizzy. I tolerate both drugs well, there were no side effects. On Lorista alone, the pressure did not rise above one hundred and forty-five, and after adding a diuretic it remained stable at one hundred and twenty-five to one hundred and thirty.
  • Igor Grigorievich, 59 years old. I have been struggling with arterial hypertension for more than twenty years, and as an experienced hypertensive patient, I can say that Lorista is one of the best drugs against high blood pressure. I tried many others, but they quickly became addictive and became no longer so effective. I have been using Lorista for more than two years, and during this time I have always had consistently good therapeutic results.

pharmachologic effect

The main substance of Lorista blocks angiotensin 2 receptors in the muscles of the heart, kidneys and blood vessels.
The action of the drug leads to a decrease in arterial lumen and a decrease in peripheral resistance, which contributes to a general decrease in pressure.

The answer to the question whether Lorista is a diuretic or not is yes.

The effect of this drug affects the processes of urine formation, which, according to statistics, will be observed only after two hours.

Indications for use

The use of the drug is indicated in the following situations:

  • high blood pressure;
  • impaired renal function in diabetes;
  • left atrial tenderness;
  • problems with the heart muscle;
  • risk of stroke.

Lorista can be prescribed as an additional agent in the treatment of antihypertensive drugs and diuretics.

Instructions for use

Before taking Lorista with diuretics, you should consult a specialist.

If recommendations are received and a prescription is issued, the drug should be taken orally once a day, regardless of the time of meal. You can drink it with a small amount of water.

For high blood pressure, one Lorista N tablet per day is prescribed with a dosage of 12.5 to 50 mg. A noticeable effect will be visible after 3 weeks of use. In patients with a large list of prescribed diuretics, the daily dose should be 25 mg.

If renal function is impaired in elderly people (over 75 years), there is no need to adjust the dosage. For patients with diabetes and those suffering from high blood pressure, the recommended dose starts at 50 mg per day.

People with chronic cardiac dysfunction should take the drug according to the following regimen: from the first to the seventh day - 12.5 mg, and the next seven - 25 mg per day.

Thus, the dosage is increased to 50 mg. For a complete and pronounced effect, you can increase the dose to two tablets.

It must be taken into account that the drug has a diuretic effect, so its use is possible only after discontinuation of diuretics and when blood volumes in the body are normalized.

People suffering from heart failure and taking ACE inhibitors should not switch to Lorista.

Lorista

Lorista (active ingredient - losartan) is an antihypertensive drug, an angiotensin II receptor blocker with selective action (it exhibits antagonism exclusively to AT1 type receptors). Medicines for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases are today, perhaps, the most popular part of the pharmacy assortment, occupying the largest area on display windows. This is not surprising: cardiovascular pathology is currently firmly entrenched in the sole leading position in the structure of overall mortality, exceeding similar indicators from all other possible causes combined. The antihypertensive effect of Lorista is based on the ability of the drug to erect an insurmountable barrier between AT1 receptors and angiotensin II, thereby blocking all physiologically significant effects of the latter, regardless of the route of its formation in the body. Thus, angiotensin II cannot realize its remarkable vasopressor potential, although its amount does not decrease, as occurs with treatment with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. It is important that, unlike the latter, Lorista does not inhibit the enzyme kininase II, which is involved in the metabolism of bradykinin. As a result, there is no accumulation of excess bradykinin, which avoids the associated side effects of cough and angioedema. Lorista reduces total peripheral vascular resistance, pressure in the pulmonary circulation, reduces afterload on the myocardium, and has a moderate diuretic effect. The drug prevents the development and progression of left ventricular hypertrophy (a predictor of cardiovascular events) and increases resistance to physical exercise in patients suffering from chronic heart failure. In order to achieve a clinically significant reduction in systolic (upper) and diastolic (lower) blood pressure, it is enough to take Lorista once a day. The drug maintains blood pressure at a given level throughout the day, without sudden changes and in accordance with the natural circadian rhythm.

The decrease in blood pressure at the end of a single dose of Lorista is about 70-80% of the antihypertensive effect 5-6 hours after administration, when the peak effect of the drug is noted. The drug does not cause a reflex increase in heart rate and a rebound increase in blood pressure after cessation of pharmacotherapy. Lorista is effective in patients regardless of their gender and age. One of the main studies demonstrating the effectiveness of the drug in arterial hypertension was the multicenter randomized LIFE trial. It involved more than 9 thousand patients who, in addition to persistently elevated blood pressure, also had left ventricular hypertrophy. Study participants were divided into two groups taking losartan (Lorista) and atenolol, respectively. When analyzing the study results, it was found that mortality in the losartan group was almost two times lower than in the atenolol group. Patients in the losaratan group were less likely to develop cardiovascular events such as ischemic stroke and acute myocardial infarction. The dynamics of the decrease in blood pressure were comparable in both groups, while in the losaratan group, patients experienced a much more pronounced regression of left ventricular hypertrophy. Thus, Lorista has proven to be a more promising drug in the treatment of arterial hypertension than atenolol. In general, Lorista, as well as all sartans (as the group of angiotensin II receptor blockers is more compactly called), is better tolerated than other groups of antihypertensive drugs. If we talk exclusively about losartan (lorist), then this drug has the most solid evidence base among all sartans, being the most studied representative of this group of drugs and having the largest number of indications for use.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During the first trimester of pregnancy, you should not take the medication, as it may have a detrimental effect on the fetus.

The risk of complications will continue during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters due to the toxic effects on the body.

Otherwise, taking the drug can lead to disruption of the formation of the baby’s organs and bones. If women took Losartan in the second trimester, they should undergo ultrasound diagnostics of the skull and kidneys.

If your blood pressure is high during pregnancy or breastfeeding, it is better to pay attention to other blood pressure-lowering drugs due to the high risk of complications.

When prescribing the drug during breastfeeding, lactation should be stopped immediately.

How to switch from Perinev to Lorist?

Stepan asks:

Good afternoon My father is 63 years old, high blood pressure 160/90, takes Perineva 4 at night, because... Peak pressure in the morning, it helps normally, but there is a constant cough, is it possible to replace Perineva with Lorist? And if possible, what dosage should I start with, and after what time after taking Perineva can I start taking Lorista, immediately or wait a certain period?

Doctor's answer:

Yes, cough can be associated with taking ACE inhibitors (Perineva). Perineva can be replaced with Lorista immediately (stop taking one drug and start another). Regarding the dose - drugs like Lorista do not begin to act immediately - the maximum effect will be about a week after starting to take the drug, so you can try 25 mg, if it is well tolerated, increase to 50 mg and observe the effect.
