Reviews from urologists about Uro-Vaxom in the treatment of cystitis

The fact that cystitis is the most common problem in urology is not news. What’s worse is that its acute clinical picture, according to scientists, is capable of taking on a relapsing form (RC) in 25% of patients, despite having completed the full course of medical therapy. Scientists are trying to solve this problem by prescribing Uro-Vax for cystitis, including it in a comprehensive treatment plan, or by monotherapy. What kind of drug is this, what are its features, the opinion of patients and doctors is the topic of our article.

About the drug

Infectious and inflammatory diseases today occupy an important place among urological pathologies. Women are especially susceptible to diseases of the urinary system.

Thus, ninety percent of all patients suffering from chronic cystitis and pyelonephritis are women. Twenty percent of them have experienced an episode of infection developing in the urinary system at least once during their adult lives. Unfortunately, despite the large number of good antibiotics, the problem of treating patients with such ailments is still far from being resolved.

First of all, the reason for this is the lack of an integrated approach. Is it possible to destroy a microbial agent with the help of antibacterial therapy during the development of an uncomplicated exacerbation of nonspecific cystitis? In the vast majority of cases this is quite likely. But should we count on the patient’s recovery? The answer will be no. In such cases, there is a high probability of the presence in the urine, in addition to microbial flora, also of fungi. The prolonged course of inflammatory processes can transform an uncomplicated infection into a complicated form, promoting the selection of a resistant pathogen and disrupting the natural passage of urine.

Thus, the use of only antibacterial treatment is not enough; a complex effect is also required. It would be advisable to supplement therapy with a drug recently registered in Russia called UroVaxom, which actually acts as a means of etiopathogenetic elimination of urinary infections. This medication consists of 6 milligrams of bacterial lysates of eighteen different strains of E. coli, which are enclosed in gelatin capsules intended for daily use on an empty stomach once a day.

In this regard, such a medicine is rightfully considered homeopathic. This drug significantly reduces immunosuppression caused by antibiotics. And foreign experience, in turn, proves the reasonableness of using the drug in clinical practice.

Considering that it is the pathogens E. Coli that are considered the main causative agent of complicated urinary infections, the targeting of UroVaxom can be regarded as achieving an etiotropic effect.

What ingredients are included in this medicine?

Introduction

The most common genesis of the development of RC is uropathogenic strains of intestinal E. Coli, which account for up to 80% of the development of cystitis. The peculiarity of the pathogen is due to its resistance (sensitivity) to antimicrobial treatment, which must be taken into account when choosing treatment tactics.

In case of a recurrent form of the disease, antibiotic therapy with the inclusion of broad-spectrum drugs that create a high concentration in the urinary tract is advisable, taking into account potential side effects and local pathogenic resistance.

But even highly effective, properly selected antibiotic therapy is not able to solve the problem of reinfection (re-infection), which quite often is the main cause of relapses of cystitis. The absence of protective nonspecific substances in urine, the genetic peculiarity of flat epithelial cells of the urinary system, intimate contacts as a factor of re-infection - all this contributes to the development of RC.

The counteracting mechanism for the development of relapses of inflammatory reactions in the bladder during repeated infection is the transformation of the local phagocytic immune defense, activating the functions of natural and acquired immunity. For this purpose, a group of drugs containing bacterial cellular components has been developed.

Once in the human body, protein fractions of pathogens do not cause the disease itself, but activate the body to produce a number of its own protein fractions (interferon) and stimulate the creation of an immune response to a specific pathogen. Therefore, a real encounter with a pathogen will not be a surprise, since the body is already armed with antibodies against it.

Side effect

The overall incidence of adverse events in clinical studies was approximately 4%.

The following are the reported side effects based on their frequency of occurrence.

  • From the digestive system: often (from 1 to 10%) - diarrhea, nausea, dyspepsia, including a feeling of discomfort in the epigastric region; infrequently (from 0.1 to 1%) - abdominal pain.
  • From the nervous system: often (from 1 to 10%) - headache.
  • From the skin and subcutaneous tissue: infrequently (from 0.1 to 1%) - allergic reactions (rash, itching, mild exanthema).
  • General disorders: infrequently (from 0.1 to 1%) - fever.

Isolated cases of serious negative effects have been reported, such as oral edema and peripheral edema, as well as the development of alopecia.

Area of application of Uro-Vax

"Uro-Vaxom" (official name), according to scientists, has an extensive evidence-based clinical base of effectiveness. Recommended for use by the European Urological Society (Association) for the treatment of chronic:

  • inflammatory reactions in the bladder;
  • infectious and inflammatory processes in urethral tissues;
  • inflammatory processes in the renal pyelocaliceal tissues (pyelitis).

At the same time, the drug is taken in combination with antibacterial agents, ensuring immunological reactivity and reducing the risk of infectious relapses.

Use in the treatment of cystitis

For recurrent reinfection of the bladder, Uro-Vaxom for cystitis is considered today the most effective drug. Contains particles of 18 strains of intestinal pathogens obtained through the process of lysis (dissolution or destruction of the bacterial biological structure). When taken orally, the drug acts as an immunostimulant:

  • stimulates immunocompetent cells of lymphoid nodules in the intestinal walls;
  • activates phagocytic defense (macrophages) in the bladder walls;
  • improves the functions of cytotoxic killers (leukocytes), teaching the immediate destruction of pathogenic pathogens;
  • increases the secretion of specific antibodies in urine and on the surface of the mucous lining of the bladder, preventing the upward spread of infection;
  • induces specific proteins (endogenous interferons) that have antiviral properties.

These properties characterize the drug as a potent immunostimulating property. By concentrating on the mucous structure of the bladder walls, Uro-Vaxom allows you to relieve the main symptoms of inflammatory processes and prevent relapses of chronic processes.

By increasing the growth of cytotoxic killer cells, interferon and immunoglobulin in the body, stable immunity and the ability to resist diseases are formed, which allows the drug to be included in therapy and immunoactive prevention of relapses of both bacterial and viral forms of cystitis.

Admission rules

During a course of antimicrobial therapy for cystitis, the drug Uro-Vaxom is prescribed daily in a dosage of one capsule. It is better to take the drug on an empty stomach in the morning. The course of treatment is at least one and a half weeks. To prevent relapses, the course of treatment is extended to 3 months (sometimes several courses per year with monthly breaks) with the usual dose in the morning.

The decision to extend the course of treatment, or the need for re-treatment, is determined by the doctor in each specific case. Elimination of the pathological symptoms of chronic cystitis and a lasting effect of treatment are observed, as a rule, after several courses of regular use of the drug.

Uro Vaxom is prescribed for the presence of various diseases of a urological nature. Provided that they are inflammatory or infectious in nature and are prone to relapse.

List of main diseases for which immunostimulants are prescribed:

  • pyelonephritis;
  • glomerulosclerosis;
  • glomerulonephritis;
  • cystitis;
  • urethritis;
  • pyelitis;
  • nephritis of various etiologies.

The list goes on, since capsules can nominally be part of various drug combinations.

Since the prescription is made by a doctor, he prescribes the medication based on the general condition of the patient. Makes decisions based on the individual characteristics of the body and the frequency of relapses.

Since cystitis and pyelonephritis are widespread in urology, Uro Vax is most often used in the treatment of these diseases.

The drug has no serious contraindications, for this reason it can be used in the treatment of various groups of patients.

The instructions for use state that the main contraindications to therapy with the participation of an immunostimulant can be considered:

  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug;
  • hypersensitivity;
  • tendency to allergic reactions of various kinds.

Pregnancy can be considered a relative contraindication. But even during this period, the drug is prescribed to patients, both as prophylaxis and as part of complex therapy.

When carrying out combination treatment, which includes both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial drugs, it is unacceptable to take alcohol or drinks containing it, even in small dosages.

If we are talking about monotherapy, using only Uro Vaxom, then the amount of alcohol consumed is significantly reduced. Drinking alcoholic beverages is acceptable, but in small quantities.

Drinking alcohol can negatively affect a person's condition and lead to the development of various side effects.

Addiction to the drug

With the correct dosage and a certain course of treatment, Uro-Vaxom, like many medications taken as prescribed, does not cause dependence or addiction.

In most countries, drugs that cause addiction and dependence are classified as controlled drugs. For example, in India these are categories “H” and “X”, in the USA – categories “II, and V”. To obtain reliable information, it is enough to read the information on the packaging or the annotation for the drug.

FAQ

Can I take it during pregnancy?

The use of Uro-Vaxom during pregnancy is not a contraindication, as is the period of natural feeding. However, the instructions for the drug indicate that it is not used in this category of people. First of all, this is due to the fact that clinical studies have not been conducted on pregnant and lactating mothers and there is insufficient data. For this reason, starting a therapeutic course with an immunostimulant during this period of life can only be prescribed by a doctor.

If a woman feels unwell after taking Uro-Vaxom, she should immediately stop taking the medication and consult a doctor. In most cases, Uro Vaxom is replaced by other means.

Can children take it?

According to the official annotation, the drug Uro-Vaxom can be used starting from 4 years of age. Of course, in this case, the course of treatment is significantly reduced, on average the duration is from 5 to 10 days.

It is quite difficult for children as young as four to take the whole pill. For this reason, experts recommend cutting the capsule and pouring the contents into a mug of tea or water. The dosage of Uro-Vaxom is prescribed by the attending physician depending on individual characteristics.

Is it possible to drink alcoholic beverages during therapy?

An immunostimulating drug and alcohol are incompatible concepts, however, as in the situation with any other medications. Alcohol destroys its effect, disrupting the vital activity of beneficial bacteria that are part of Uro-Vaxom. In addition, alcoholic drinks can provoke an exacerbation of cystitis.

For this reason, experts categorically do not recommend drinking alcoholic beverages during the therapeutic course.

Are there analogues

Unfortunately, the immunostimulating agent Uro-Vaxom has no analogues with a similar composition. However, the pharmaceutical market offers many other immunostimulants that have a similar effect on the body. Your doctor will help you choose a medicine.

Reviews from patients and doctors

Reviews from urologists about Uro-Vaxom are quite mixed.

  1. Some, more “disciplined” ones, note the effectiveness of the drug, according to numerous studies, following the recommendations of foreign “luminaries”, although until now there are no justified standard treatment regimens and the long-term results of immunoprophylaxis of cystitis have not been assessed. But they prescribe the drug according to the established protocol, not caring at all about the fact that to this day there is no evidence base for the safety of Uro-Vaxom.
  2. Other doctors, defending their point of view, speak out more boldly. They express bewilderment that patients are offered to swallow pills, and very expensive ones at that, filled with E. coli, with which our intestines are literally filled in astronomical quantities. Why, having such a number of pathogenic collies, immunity has not yet developed, and the tablet will definitely work, if, of course, it survives the action of hydrochloric acid in the intestines. Why should “colibatory” immunoglobulins rush specifically to the MP, when there is a huge supply of intestinal flora for their “meal”? Such doctors consider research biased for the sake of the prosperity of pharmaceutical companies and continue to recommend old proven methods (vitamin complexes, diet, hardening, etc.) to restore immune functions.

When treating cystitis in women, reviews of Uro-Vaxom are full of different characteristics. Some note a rapid improvement in the symptoms of the disease.

Other patients recognize the theoretical validity of the drug’s benefits, but note a completely different and ambiguous effectiveness in practice, with a high level of side effects, accompanied by:

  • migraines;
  • headaches and stomach pains;
  • stool disorder;
  • nausea;
  • dyspeptic disorders;
  • allergies with skin rashes;
  • feverish condition.

At the same time, there is a high, unreasonable in the opinion of patients, price - up to 1500 rubles.

Directions for use and dosage

Aspirin-C - official instructions for use

To achieve maximum effect, the immunostimulating drug must be taken in a course. Depending on the severity and frequency of relapses, the doctor independently prescribes the duration of treatment. Typically, therapy with Uro-Vaxom lasts from 14 to 30 days. To increase the effectiveness of treatment, experts recommend taking antibacterial and antimicrobial agents as prescribed by a doctor along with an immunostimulant.

To prevent and reduce the number of relapses of the disease, Uro-Vaxom is taken for 1 to 3 months.

The dosage of Uro-Vaxom is quite convenient. You need to take one capsule every day. It is advisable to take the medicine before your first meal.

Is there a possibility of an adverse reaction?

Based on consumer reviews, we can conclude that there are practically no side effects. However, the manufacturer of Uro-Vaxom warns that the following unpleasant sensations are possible after taking the medication:

  • stomach ache;
  • nausea accompanied by vomiting;
  • stool disorder;
  • flatulence in the stomach;
  • increased body temperature, chills;
  • irritability, sleep disturbance.

Uro-Vaxom, the side effects of which do not exclude the possibility of an allergic reaction after use, requires discontinuation of the drug. Allergies manifest themselves as rashes all over the body, which itch terribly and bring discomfort. In this case, the patient must see a doctor and report this problem.

Most likely, the specialist will replace Uro-Vaxom with a similar medicine, but with a different active ingredient, because a complete analogue of the drug does not exist.

How can I replace Uro-Vax?

There is no exact analogue of Urovax today. You can replace the drug with a drug with a similar pharmacological action and a different price category, including:

  1. Methyluracil priced from 30 rubles.
  2. Immunex – from 125 rub.
  3. Immunal - from 200 rub.
  4. Cytovir-3 – from 320 rub.
  5. Anaferon – from 218 rubles;
  6. Wobenzym - from 1700 rub.
  7. Pyrogenal – from 750 rub.

Moreover, these medicines are available in different dosage forms, which makes it possible to choose the most convenient one. Uro-Vaxom does not yet meet the standards for the treatment of recurrent infections and the hopes placed on it. Time will tell whether ongoing studies will confirm the safety and effectiveness of the drug.

Your Narcologist: How to eliminate acute cystitis after alcohol?

Naturally, cystitis after alcohol can develop into an acute form. The sensations of pain, stinging and burning will noticeably intensify. In this case, the condition will improve with timely drug treatment. Antibacterial drugs such as Monural, Urolesan and Fluconazole will best cope with the manifestations of the disease. No-shpa and Nise will help relieve pain.

It is also recommended to drink more liquid: still water and berry fruit drinks (especially cranberry and lingonberry drinks, as they contain antibacterial components).

Reviews from doctors about uro-vaxom

This drug is ideal for the treatment of patients with chronic recurrent cystitis associated with Escherichia coli (E. coli). While taking this drug, there is often a remission of the disease or at least a decrease in the number of relapses.

The high price of the drug makes it inaccessible to some patients.

There is no alternative drug on the modern pharmacological market. Excellent for urinary tract infections caused by E.coli. A full course allows you to achieve eradication with the achievement of long-term stable remission. Suitable for patients of any age group. I use it in everyday practice.

A good drug for use by patients suffering from chronic recurrent cystitis, in conditions of modern antibiotic resistance, as a drug of preventive action and therapeutic action, but it is not always effective, since, unfortunately, there are many causes of cystitis, not just a bacterial infection.

"Uro-Vaxom" is suitable only for patients with recurrent, frequent cystitis, in whom E. coli is often cultured. The course of treatment with this drug is at least 3 months. Contains weakened strains of E. coli, which helps the production of antibodies against it, thereby increasing the body's resistance to it.

After taking Uro-Vaxom, there is often a decrease in relapses of cystitis caused by E. coli.

"Uro-vaxom" is a very effective drug in the complex treatment of recurrent urinary tract infections. Has proven effectiveness. To develop a stable effect, it must be taken for a long time - up to several months. I actively use this drug in the complex treatment of chronic cystitis.

A little expensive, but there are simply no cheaper analogues.

An excellent drug for stimulating “local” immunity of the urinary tract, given that 80-90% of the causative agents of chronic recurrent cystitis are E. coli. Works well and fast enough. I also successfully use it in the complex therapy of chronic prostatitis with a predominance of dysuric disorders. It is important that the drug stimulates the lymphocyte component and promotes the activation of its own interferon.

Patient reviews of uro-vaxome

The drug for recurrent cystitis did not help me, I took it as expected for a month, but I just wasted my money.

The child was prescribed the drug by a nephrologist for treatment of a urinary tract infection. The logic of the appointment was incomprehensible to me, but I’m not an expert either, so I decided to trust. The fact is that when the child’s urine was cultured for sterility, a Klebsiella pneumoniae infection was detected, and we fought against it. “Uro-vaxom” contains fragments of e-coli, that is, in my opinion, the drug is intended specifically for treatment of the latter. Nevertheless, the child took a ten-day course of the drug; upon repeated culture, Klebsiella pneumoniae was not detected, but e-coli was detected with the same titers, and for two years now we have been fighting it. I don’t know whether it was this drug that caused the change in flora or whether it was a coincidence, but our experience was exactly like that.

I went to the hospital with pain in the lower abdomen, the tests were bad. They prescribed me antibiotics. I took the course. The inflammation went away for exactly a month, a month later it all started again, so I suffered for exactly 4 months, without a break. 4 months of taking antibiotics led to a decrease in immunity, and I started getting sick just because the wind blew. Then they recommended Uro-vaxom to me; the drug is not cheap, but it is effective. The course of treatment lasted a month. The inflammation went away almost immediately and there were no more relapses for 3 months.

I often suffer from cystitis, so I gave my urine for bacterial culture and the doctors found E. coli in it. They prescribed Uro-vaxom because it helps fight E. coli. I will say right away that after some time my attacks of cystitis stopped. For about six months it never worsened for me, and I already thought that I had completely cured this disease. But it's not that simple. Now, once every two months, cystitis returns, but in a very weak form; it’s enough just to warm the urinary canal with something warm (I apply a bottle of water) and everything goes away immediately. In general, cystitis does not hurt much, the pills helped.

The only remedy that works

Advantages: Protects against relapse for a long time.

Disadvantages: Didn't find any.

Review: For many years I suffered from cystitis 2-3 times a year. At my last visit, the doctor prescribed me a course of Uro-Vaxom for three months, 1 capsule per day. When I was treated and re-tested, I was surprised by the complete absence of bacteria and microbes in the tests. It's been a year now that I don't remember this unpleasant and painful illness. This year, even in the summer I swam in the sea and so on. no relapses.

Use of the drug for cystitis

Many patients who suffered from cystitis leave positive reviews about the drug and emphasize that it can cope with the disease even in its chronic form.

The effectiveness of Urovaxone for cystitis is due to the immunostimulating nature of the drug. Because this disease is caused by a specific type of bacteria, many people believe that it can be cured with antibiotics alone. However, this opinion is fundamentally wrong. Many bacteria have already adapted to drugs, so without strengthening the immune system, the use of tablets will not make sense.

For cystitis, the remedy is also used once a day. However, the presence of this disease requires a course of treatment. As doctors note, a stable effect and elimination of signs of the chronic form of the disease can usually be noted after several months of regular use.

Increases bladder immunity, cystitis will not return!

Advantages: Firstly, efficiency. Secondly, it is not difficult to take.

Disadvantages: I found no disadvantages.

Review: In combination with an antibiotic, the doctor prescribed treatment with the drug uro-vax. At first I wondered why, after a good product that kills microbes - the sources of the disease, you need something else, and besides, for three whole months! But I still bought it together with Suprax Solutab at the pharmacy and Uro-Vax. I’m used to trusting the doctor - how can I not follow the recommendations?! And now I understand, having found a lot of information on the Internet about cystitis, that this disease is terrible and disgusting, it often happens that... More

What is important to remember before taking medication: contraindications and side effects

Before starting to use the drug Uro-Vaxom, a woman should carefully study the instructions for it. This drug is not prescribed to pregnant and breastfeeding women, children under 4 years of age, as well as to patients who have individual intolerance to the components included in the composition.

Since Uro-Vaxom is often prescribed in combination with antibiotics, drinking alcohol during the treatment period is not recommended.

You should not take this immunostimulant 2 weeks before vaccination and for a month after it. Failure to do so may result in severe immune system side effects.

Persons whose work requires increased attention and quick response can be treated with Uro-Vaxom.

It is not recommended to use the medicine in patients undergoing therapy with immunosuppressive drugs.

It is known that during treatment with the drug, the patient may experience complaints of disturbances in the functioning of the digestive system (changes in stool, urge to vomit), increased body temperature, migraine, skin reactions (itching, eczema) and allergies.

If severe side effects develop, you need urgent consultation with your doctor and possibly discontinuation of the medication.

Helped get rid of cystitis

Pros: Effective.

Disadvantages: None.

Review: I started having cystitis for the second time in a year, I went to the doctor, both times she prescribed an antibiotic. I drank, took tests, everything was normal. Several months pass - cystitis. As a result, I went to another doctor and she prescribed me Uro-Vaxom. This drug must be taken for 3 months, without a break. Uro-vaxom is a drug that prevents new bacteria from appearing and multiplying in the bladder, strengthening the immunity of this organ. And when I took the course of Uro-Vax, there have been no recurrences of the disease for more than a year. And... Next

Prevention

Treatment of bladder inflammation requires strict adherence to additional conditions. To get better quickly, the patient needs to:

  • Avoid drinking alcohol in any quantity;
  • drink more liquids (at least 2 liters per day);
  • When choosing underwear, give preference to natural fabrics. When wearing, there should be no feeling of tightness or tightness;
  • wash yourself after every trip to the toilet (especially women);
  • avoid hypothermia and overheating;
  • adhere to a special diet: avoid fried foods, use salt and spices to a minimum, leave heavy dishes for lunch, and eat light foods in the evening;
  • monitor the health of the genitourinary system and undergo routine medical examinations with a gynecologist and urologist;
  • do not retain urine in the body. At the first urge, it is best to empty your bladder. This will rid the body of stagnation of waste and toxins;
  • take specialized herbal medicines to detoxify the body (herbal preparations, tinctures, decoctions);
  • When sitting in one place for a long time, it is better to take breaks and warm up.

As you can see, cystitis is an extremely unpleasant disease, the manifestations of which are sometimes simply unbearable. You should not aggravate the situation by drinking alcoholic beverages and turning bladder inflammation into a chronic form.

Reviews

  • Marina, 37 years old . I decided to try Urovaxone as a remedy for chronic cystitis on the advice of my doctor. As a result, I began to feel much better and finally got rid of the burning sensation and pain. But there is one detail: it took a very long time to take the medicine to get the effect. So if you are willing to wait three to four months, then Urovaxone will suit you.
  • Alena, 26 years old . I started taking this medicine after learning about it from a friend. It really helped with cystitis, but now I’ll have to buy Urovaxone periodically and take it again, otherwise I’m afraid the disease will return. Of course, the price is high, but I’m ready to pay if only the pain doesn’t start again.
  • Irina, 42 years old . Overall, I'm happy with the product. There are much fewer exacerbations, and they pass easier. The only negative after taking the medicine is that I get headaches from time to time. So far there is no way to combat this side effect.
  • Christina, 45 years old . I had a terrible form of cystitis: chronic with exacerbations. Every autumn and spring, hell broke out; the pain made me want to climb the wall. And Urovakson performed a real miracle! Although the disease periodically reminds itself, all the most unpleasant symptoms have smoothed out, and now each exacerbation becomes easier and easier. I still hope to get rid of my illness forever.
